The story of Morton’s Power Equipment began in 1942, when William W. Morton opened Morton’s Garage. Originally located at Spotsylvania Courthouse, near what is now Chewning’s Grocery, the business focused on repairing school buses, sawmill diesel units, and forestry equipment. In the early 1960s, Morton’s Garage expanded its services to include the sale and repair of chainsaws. William W. Morton even collaborated with STIHL, a premier chainsaw manufacturer, to enhance safety and performance features.

When William W. Morton retired in the late 1970s, he passed the business down to his nephews, Bob and Jeff Massey, who continue to run Morton’s Power Equipment today. The business now operates out of a spacious 40,000-square-foot facility in Fredericksburg, VA.
